They're the sort of sailings that generally appeal to a retired crowd because these trips require a long time away from home. Alas, Norwegian Prima only is based in Galveston seasonally for the winter, from December to March. It offers seven-night sailings to the Western Caribbean with calls in Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Harvest Caye, Belize. Based in Galveston year-round, the 11-year-old vessel operates short four- and five-night voyages to the Western Caribbean that are often on sale for under $500 per person or less. For off-peak travel, we sometimes see five-night sailings for sale for around $300 per person — or just $60 a night. This is a third of the cost of similar five-night sailings on Disney Magic.

I cruised Royal Caribbean from Galveston for the first time. Here's what a cruise from Texas is like.

When I was looking at hotel prices, it was a lot more expensive to stay in Galveston, so we decided to stay in Houston where the prices were much cheaper. It seemed as though most hotels were at least $50 or more a night in Galveston versus Houston. For the rest of 2023, Voyager of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas will sail out of Galveston. There will be a few ships cruising out of Galveston in 2024, including Jewel of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas, and Harmony of the Seas.

Though I live in the Midwest, I would select Galveston again as a port to cruise in and out of. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to cruise out of Galveston, but my decision would primarily be based on the cruise itinerary, ship, and price. If you are driving to the Galveston port, there are parking options close by. Interior venues on Carnival Breeze include a comedy club, piano bar, casino and showroom for big production shows. The dining options are similar to what you'll find on many Carnival ships, including an extra-charge steakhouse and Italian eatery, Cucina Del Capitano, as well as no-extra-charge main restaurants. It also has a sushi restaurant and a version of Carnival's Caribbean-inspired watering hole, RedFrog Pub.

From short trips along the Mexican coast to extended jaunts across international waters – there's something for everyone. There are several popular cruises departing out of Galveston in July 2023 that still have bookings available. The Port of Galveston is located on the Gulf Coast in Texas and is one of the state's busiest ports. Unveiled in 2022, Norwegian Prima is the first of a new class of Norwegian vessel that the line has designed to be "elevated," in its words, as compared to earlier Norwegian ships. Most Carnival Breeze sailings out of Galveston stop at Cozumel, with some adding a stop at Costa Maya, as well. Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Breeze is the Galveston-based ship to pick when you're looking for a quick and affordable getaway — something that isn't a big commitment and won't break the bank.

However, some cruise lines may allow a limited amount of wine or champagne to be brought onboard for special occasions. It is best to check with the specific cruise line for their alcohol policy. Not long after getting in the Lyft, both my dad and I got a notification on our phones that we could start the mandatory safety briefing. I highly recommend you watch the safety briefing video as soon as it is available to you so you don’t have to do it once onboard. My original plan was to fly to Houston and get a Lyft or Uber to Galveston so we could be near the port for embarkation day.

The day before our cruise, we flew to Houston and got a hotel near the airport

I thought it was strange how Royal Caribbean said only Lyft was an option when I was easily able to request an Uber instead. As we got close to the inside of the terminal, the line started to move much faster. Once inside, there were escalators and elevators to take us up to the security area. For the next 30 minutes or so, we stood in the heat with hundreds of other cruisers.

After more than 20 years as a cruise port, Galveston has added a third, state-of-the-art cruise terminal and new ships and cruise lines all within the span of a single year. In addition to its cruise offerings, the adjacent city of Galveston is well suited for vacationers of all ages, with a variety of accommodation offerings and plenty of activities to enjoy. Yes, most all inclusive cruises include a selection of alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and cocktails. However, premium brands and specialty drinks may incur an additional charge. After requesting an Uber, I was selected pretty quickly and our driver picked us up within a few minutes.

However, while mom and dad are off at the bar or on the adults-only sundeck, kids have plenty of ways to keep themselves entertained, thanks to myriad children’s programming. Pick from programs for ages 2 to 17, with kids split into groups 2 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 11, 12 to 14 and 15 to 17. If your wellness regimen focuses more on relaxation than working out, though, you can always make a trip to the Carnival Magic spa, which is pretty large and offers a wide range of treatments. The menu prices are a bit on the expensive side, but frequent Carnival cruisers laud the cruise line for its very nice spa experiences.

Premium Vista Balcony

(On Lido deck 10) were added RedFrog Rum Bar (rum bar for frozens and beers, plus the Carnival's private label ThirstyFrog Red (draught beer). (On Lido deck 10) were added 2 new poolside eateries (both complimentary) – Guy’s Burger Joint (fast-food bar) and Bluelguana Cantina (Mexican eatery). Other new venues on Lido Deck are BlueIguana Tequila Bar (Mexican-themed outdoor bar for frozens and beers) and the Pizzeria del Capitano (complimentary).

Deluxe Ocean View

There's room for you and your things - with a large room and balcony - and a walk-in closet. The soothing in-room whirlpool tub will help you stay relaxed after your relaxing spa treatment. And like all suites, a Cloud 9 Spa Suite features VIP check-in, which lets you easily get right up to your amazing stateroom. Day or night, find a spot on deck and check out the huge poolside screen — it's Carnival Seaside Theater™! Hit movies, live sporting events, concerts and even cartoons for the kids are just some of what you'll find featured at this large-scale outdoor entertainment zone. Then grab a friend or three and get ready to kick back and enjoy.

However, Breeze has a cuter color palette in cabins and features an additional for-fee restaurant, Bonsai Sushi. Since the differences are pretty small, it will be down to price for most passengers. Younger children enjoy educational activities that are plenty fun, such as crafts and games, song times and stories. Older kids are given a little more freedom, but all the fun they could ever need at their fingertips, thanks to a cool lounge area outfitted with gaming systems and more. In terms of free dining, you get, as mentioned, the complimentary access to the two main dining rooms, where you’ll enjoy standard cruising fare — soup, salad, entree and dessert.

Deck 2

Enjoy the extra outdoor space, along with all the standard Carnival stateroom amenities. Built in 2011, the Carnival Magic cruise ship weighs 130K tons and has 1845 staterooms for up to 4428 passengers served by 1386 crew. You can expect a space ratio of 29 gross tons per passenger on this ship.

You’ll see plenty of families and friends traveling together, most wearing matching cruise shirts. You can pretty much always rely on Carnival to provide you with plenteous entertainment over the course of your cruise, and that’s certainly the case when you’re aboard Carnival Magic. But you won’t find 20-plus restaurants helmed by world-class chefs and serving up gastronomic feasts for the eyes. As a member of Carnival’s Dream class, Carnival Magic is sister ship to Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream and Costa Diadema (owned by Carnival, operated by Costa Cruises and still considered a Dream-class ship). Activities for Penguins range from movies and crafts to song times and pajama parties.

The ship features a 1/2 mile wraparound promenade deck with spectacular scenic views, charming staterooms, and exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff. In fact, the ship has been specially designed to offer the best in activities and entertainment. The ship's top cabin, the Grand Suite, while spacious, is still not a "true suite" with two separate rooms. They have the same features as the other suites, with a walk-in closet with a vanity, a full bathroom with a combo shower/whirlpool tub and double sinks.

Imagine while they are having such a great time, you can experience blissful relaxation at the peaceful area that is just for adults or indulge in some of the many rejuvenating treatments, such as a message, at the two-deck spa. Carnival Magic cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 1845 staterooms for 3690 passengers (max capacity is 4724) served by 1367 crew-staff. The boat has 14 passenger decks (9 with cabins), 22 lounges, and bars, 3 swimming pools (one with a retractable roof), 8 outdoor Jacuzzis (2 of which cantilevered), 18 elevators. Cabin decks have a total of 54 Suites, 851 Balconies, 221 Oceanviews, 719 Inside cabins, Self Service Laundromats (passenger use launderettes). We designed Carnival Magic balcony staterooms for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, and this stateroom features a balcony that's even wider than our standard balcony.

Magical evenings will also take you to a comedy club, a piano bar, a place to listen to jazz, a casino, disco and more. The Carnival ship Magic is the second of the company's Dream-class vessels (Fincantieri Monfalcone-built), with sisterships Breeze and Dream, and also Costa Diadema. The boat was christened by Lindsey Wilkerson (worker at the NYC-based ALSAC - fundraising organization for St Jude Children's Research Hospital). Voyages to the Caribbean include 4 sea days (2 southbound plus 2 northbound). The 2011-built Carnival Magic cruise ship is one the biggest and Carnival's second DREAM-class liner, together with Breeze, Dream as well as Costa Diadema. As mentioned, there is no shortage of delicious cruise dining and drinking options.

Click deck pictures to go to individual cruise deck plan pages where you can see all the public areas, venues and stateroom cabins categories for each deck. Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. Rates are in USD and valid for US and Canadian residents only. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. Carnival Magic (2011-built, last refurbished in 2021 May, Fun Ship 2.0 refurbishment in 2016) is the second of all 3 Dream-class Carnival cruise ships - together with Breeze and Dream. A 24-inch flat-screen television (larger in suites) includes news stations such as CNN, the Cartoon Network, pay-per-view movies and several Carnival channels that cover everything from ship activities to your Sail & Sign statement.

There's room for you and your things — with a large room and balcony — and a walk-in closet. Balcony staterooms were designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views, so look to a balcony if you're looking to cruise aboard Carnival Magic. Any time you're in your room, you're just steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis, featuring the sort of sea view you can also feel. Ocean Suites also include VIP check-in, walk-in closet and bathroom with whirlpool. Carnival Magic, Deluxe Ocean View staterooms are a great choice for families who want to let the sun shine in as they sail. Rooms in this category feature great views, a full bathroom - plus a separate washroom - and while stateroom configurations vary, certain Deluxe Ocean View rooms have space to sleep up to five cruisers.

A Value package, which allows you to access more apps and sites but not Skype or streaming services like Spotify has one cost, while the Premium package is supposed to give you a better experience. We'll leave you with the caveat that even the Premium plan encounters slow speeds and download times. A rule of thumb on cruise ships is the higher up you go away from the main pool, the more loungers you'll be able to find. That's true on Magic, where you'll need to arrive early to score a primo lido spot.

Our menu features mouthwatering premium cuts of beef cooked to your exact specifications, as well as a fantastic selection of seafood, entrées, gourmet appetizers... (They actually call it the Award of Excellence.) The Steakhouse’s atmosphere pairs remarkably well with, and perhaps even enhances, the culinary creations of our gourmet chefs. (On Promenade deck 5) was added the Alchemy Bar (cocktail pharmacy with resident mixologists). Also here, the Lanai Oceanside Barbeque was replaced by the new fast-food bar named “Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse”. The bar is complimentary and via a partnership with Guy Fieri (running also the “Guy’s Burger Joint” on Lido deck). Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse is an open-air restaurant for a variety of BBQ favorites.

One of the main attractions is the thalassotherapy pool, which sits under a skylight. Other features include a large room with heated tiled loungers and several saunas and steam rooms. The sprawling Cloud 9 Spa is 22,700 square feet and takes up several decks in the ship's fore. Come here for a variety of treatments, including acupuncture, body sculpting, hot-stone massages and facials.

Cruises Only vs Travelocity for April 2024 Cruise Vacation Sites

travelocity cruise

One of the top reasons savvy travelers love cruising, though, is because of the incredible value it offers. With Royal Caribbean, your cruise fare includes access to most of the ship’s attractions, select dining venues and all of the entertainment onboard. If you want to make your experience even more all-inclusive, you can opt for beverage and specialty dining packages that cover drinks and dinner at some of the most exclusive restaurants in the fleet. On top of all that, the cruise line presents frequent limited-time offers and seasonal sales, making it easy to score big savings when booking your vacation.

THRILLING Caribbean TREKS

Top Consumer Reviews may earn money when you click on a link. American Queen Voyages will offer the longest trips in the line’s history in 2023, with two 23-day river itineraries on the Mississippi and Ohio aboard the 123-stateroom American Countess. “The ship will sail more than 1,700 miles from Minnesota down the Ohio River and Upper Mississippi River, calling on more ports and offering more guided tours than ever before,” as T+L reported in August. Silversea gives Antarctica travelers the option to skip two days of sailing the often-rocky Drake Passage. Instead, they can fly in comfort over the waters separating South America from the continent, then hop aboard the 127-suite Silver Cloud and 100-suite Silver Endeavour for trips along the frosty coastline. Travelers are turning to trusted lines to help minimize the hassles of country hopping and maximize relaxation time in each destination.

THE MOST EXCITING CRUISE DESTINATIONS

The innovative vessel, which is similar in design to Scenic Eclipse, will have luxurious suites complete with butler service and all sorts of extras, including helicopters (plural) and a submarine. Seabourn Venture, the luxury line’s first 132-suite expedition ship, launched in late summer with itineraries in northern Europe; trips in Japan, the South Pacific, and Antarctica are on tap for 2023. Seabourn Pursuit, which will be a sibling ship to Venture, is scheduled to arrive in 2023, the second in Seabourn’s growing expedition fleet.

Like its sister companies, Travelocity is accredited by the BBB and has an "A+" rating. Unfortunately, from a customer perspective, Travelocity does even worse in reviews than Orbitz and Expedia. The site is straightforward, easy to use, and offers cruises from all the major cruise lines. While Expedia doesn’t charge any booking fees, it also doesn’t offer any price guarantees. However, you can sometimes find additional bonuses for booking your cruise through Expedia.

Follows the complete list of Carnival Miracle lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens, and adults. The dress code on Carnival Miracle – and, indeed, on the entire Carnival fleet – is rather laid back both during the day and in the evening. The only exception is formal nights, when some men can be seen wearing tuxedos, and women, evening gowns. If you’d rather sit out of the fun and just watch, that’s totally possible, too, thanks to Playlist Productions and the theater team’s amazing lineup of shows, all cruise long.

Is Carnival Miracle Family Friendly?

Some are included in the cost of the cruise, while others have an additional charge. The bathroom was brightly lit, with a single large mirror spanning the wall above the sink, flanked by three shelves on each side and a makeup mirror. The lowest ones on each side were sufficient for a standard travel kit. A retractable line gave us a place to hang wet laundry inside the shower.

We Make Vacation Planning Easy

Self-serve laundry facilities are located on decks 1, and 4 through 7, and are open till midnight for a fee. Delicious meals are served at two sprawling formal dining rooms on two levels. Carnival Miracle staterooms (1062 total, in 28 categories) include 50 Suites, 634 Balcony, 171 Oceanview and 215 Inside cabins. The ship has 17 wheelchair-accessible cabins but no Spa cabins. Suites are 4 types (Grand, Vista, Ocean, Junior), the largest are Grand Suites (300 ft2 / 28 m2 plus 115 ft2 / 11 m2 terrace).

Register with Cruise.com to get access to exclusive rates, discounts and special offers. At Alchemy Bar® we make drinks into art, while the laid-back RedFrog Pub™ has "Caribbean cool" down to a science. And up in SkyBox™ Sports Bar, we've combined luxury-box comfort with the up-close view from the 50-yard line. The ship’s next dry dock is scheduled to take place over March, April and May 2025.

In fact, 64 percent of the cabins on Carnival Miracle have a balcony, whereas balcony options throughout the rest of the line’s fleet represent less than 50 percent of the cabins. However, it is worth noting that Carnival Miracle balcony rooms on deck 5 (a.k.a. Upper Deck) have views obstructed by either lifeboats or tender boats. (These cabins are labelled Balcony Obstructed View on the ship’s stateroom charts.) The same is true of the inside Carnival Miracle units known as Interior with Obstructed View (also known as interior room with French doors). Despite their name, these staterooms on deck 4 of Carnival Miracle have windows facing the outdoors, but the views are blocked. With more space for stretching out indoors, plus a large balcony for kicking back outdoors, try an Ocean Suite to experience private, luxurious relaxation.

Aft-View Extended Balcony staterooms feature a larger balcony for more lounge-around room, more kick-back space… not to even mention some of the best stern-side views you'll find anywhere. Get ready to relax as you gaze upon the ship's gentle wake from your spacious balcony. Carnival Miracle has 66 obstructed-view balcony units, all of them located on Deck 5.

The Miracle can hold 2,124 based on double occupancy (two people per room) and more when you take into account 3rd and 4th passengers. When you compare the total tonnage of the ship to the number of passengers, the Miracle has a space ratio of 42. Depending on the ship, this number can range from 30 to 52 (with a bigger number meaning more space per person) so this ship's space-to-person ratio is about average.

A sushi cart is set up each afternoon outside of Maguire's Bar with rotating options like shrimp, assorted rolls and salmon, all free of charge. Balcony staterooms are your best and most updated options, particularly the premium balcony staterooms, which offer a slightly more updated aesthetic. You have several balcony options to choose from, including extended balconies and obstructed view balconies.

Cloud 9 Spa staff are masters (or, maybe more like artists) trained in the craft of simply helping you chill. What’s their secret Massages, facials, body wraps, thermal suites and more plus, on certain ships, the amazing Hydrotherapy Pool — these are the tools of the trade. It’s where young teens ages 12 to 14 go to hang out, meet new friends, and enjoy some pretty awesome activities like dance parties, games, outdoor movies and more, in the special Circle “C” area or around the ship. It’s all supervised by friendly and fun-loving counselors who want your young teens to have the best vacation ever. Featuring a standard-size balcony, in a Carnival Miracle Junior Suite you'll find everything else there is to love about a suite, including VIP check-in, a walk-in; and even a tub for relaxing.

Find out which fun ingredients — staterooms, dining, activities — go into each deck. If dancing’s your jive, don’t miss your chance to get out on the dance floor, in multiple venues across Carnival Miracle. There’s live music on nearly every deck, and some of the lounges and bars around the ship are specifically dedicated to live music. Carnival Miracle offers lots of spaces for adults to relax in serene settings.

At the Fountainhead Cafe on Deck 2, we found charades, trivia contests and Scattergories. At the RedFrog Pub next door was shuffleboard and afternoon karaoke. The Ariadne Room, Deck 2, was home to seminars on acupuncture, posture and metabolism, and a ladies pamper party (the goal of all these was to sell passengers spa services). The Lido Stage, next to the midship pool on Deck 9, was the place for family games, the hairy chest contest and the ship's sail-away parties. When a major sports game was played, the TVs at SkyBox Sports Bar would be tuned in.

All Carnival cruises go to great spots — what sets each ship apart is how it gets you there. Every one of our ships features its own unique twist on Carnival-style fun. Nothing beats relaxing by a pool with a nice drink in hand as you feel the fresh sea breeze pass by you. The problem is that with thousands of people on a ship, there's not always room.
